More and more people and homeowners are now using vinyl blinds. Unlike other curtain designs, vinyl vertical blinds are more manageable when you want to open your window and have a peek outside or close it so you can be protected from the sun’s rays. Another reason that people would prefer to have vinyl vertical blinds is its easy cleaning methods compared with fabric ones that needs specialized cleaning methods and require special cleaning products. Even if its cleaning practices are easy and a bit messy, you simply need to practice cleaning it, and in the long run, it would not become a huge chore for you. Following the simple steps below will help you clean your vinyl blinds effortlessly.
1. Preparation. Before you start cleaning, prepare the materials needed. Since most vinyl vertical blinds are huge, you may need a stepladder to reach the top part of the blinds. It is better for you to use a stepladder that has a handle at the top which you can hold onto to maintain balance while cleaning. Select a stepladder that is of the same height of your blinds so that you don’t need to reach out and stretch out your hands while cleaning. When you clean a vertical awning, the water will naturally come down and may wet and destroy your floor. Thus, you need to protect your floor and window sill by placing a plastic sheet below the cleaning area.
2. Materials needed for cleaning. You definitely need a soapy water, detergent, bucket, tong and sponges. Choose a sponge that has the same or larger width with the slat. With a larger sponge, you can easily clean the slat with one smooth movement. Get a tong that have claws that can secure the sides of the sponge to touch each other.
3. Process of Cleaning.
a) Keep the blinds open to have easy access to the slats. b) Place the protective plastic sheet beneath the cleaning area. c) Start cleaning the blind one slat at a time. Immerse the cleaning tool into the soapy water and eliminate excess water. Place the sponge between the slats at the top part and gently slide down the sponge over its surface. Often rinse the sponge and continue the procedure from top to bottom. If you observe traces to appear, change the water and wash the sponge carefully to remove all dirt. d) Mop the brackets of the blind that holds the slats. Use a dry cloth so there will be no rust. 4. Drying. It is better to dry the slats in place rather than taking them out to dry. The slats will be easily damaged when taken out of their place. If you dry them in their original place, your vinyl vertical blind will last longer and will be in great shape. If you clean it during a pleasant weather, you can simply open the window so that the air can circulate inside and eventually dry the slats.
